As for our
incident; it happened on the Miskito bank real close
to the drop off; they seem to fish that area, we were only about 45 nm from Providencia.
We had a lot of
fishing boats that night; but we made sure to stay out of their way.
But this I guy was
playing chicken with us, and kept coming, with the purpose of running us down.
It happened at about: 14* 16N- 82* 02W. When we had avoided the collision he
moved a-stern of us and slowly kept heading away, but stayed with us a long
time. Once we got off the bank and were in deep water he headed off further and
faster in the direction of the coast. He was definitely not fishing, his
starboard light was out and he was about 80 feet in length; from what we could
ascertain a real rust bucket. Maybe he was running drugs. I just wish these
guys would leave us cruisers alone, don’t they know we do not care what they
do, we just want to be able to go our way, and use the ocean like they do.
